2014 marked the second year of our title sponsorship of the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl. If the second time is a charm, then the third year in 2015 is going to be amazing!
Thanks to the hard work of the planning team, Royal Purple guests were treated to a first class experience, that was seamless from start to finish. The hospitality suite was located on the 60th floor at our host hotel Mandalay Bay. Much improved from our hospitality location the year before, the suite served as a guest check in, a meeting point and was also host to an post pep rally and game receptions.
Prior to Royal Purple guests arriving for the game, the Royal Purple/Calumet marketing teams attended several bowl week activities including the Team Welcome Reception on Fremont Street, community visits to Opportunity Village and Goody Two Shoes, Ladies Luncheon, Press Conference, Kick Off Luncheon and Pep Rally on Fremont Street.
On game day, Royal Purple hosted guests at tailgating at Sam Boyd Stadium adjacent to the truck and trailer where “kids” of all ages enjoyed the gaming chairs and received thunder sticks, t-shirts, pens and decals, and had in-game hospitality inside the stadium.
Two special events took place during the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl game that were not part of the televised broadcast. The first was the donation of a new home to a military veteran from the Military Warriors Support organization and Bank of America. Moments after Army veteran corporal Tim Lipscomb, his wife and three children were surprised with the house, their special moment got even better when Royal Purple’s Vice President of Marketing Leah Herrington followed that presented Lipscomb with a check for $5,000 to furnish his new home and an additional check for a Royal Purple garage with some help from Snap On Tools and RaceDeck. We were honored to be a part of Tim’s special moment and hope that the Lipscomb family enjoys their new home for many years to come!
The second event was the conclusion of the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Quarterback Challenge contest. The contest was launched nationwide with O’Reilly Autoparts giving five randomly drawn finalists the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas as guests of Royal Purple and the chance to win a 2015 Subaru WRX STI. The contest was promoted on Royal Purple and O’reilly social media, contest microsite, advertising channels and SEMA Show sign ups. Over 250,000 entries were received during the entry period and the five finalists selected represented New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Illinois and Kansas.
During the tailgating activities at Sam Boyd Stadium, the finalists participated in a skills challenge that would determine the finalist who would throw for the car during halftime. The winner was Bridgette Almada from Hillsborough, New Jersey. At the start of halftime Almada made her way to the field with announcer Chet Buchanan and a Elvis impersonator dressed as Santa. After easily hitting the first target on the field, she missed the second target, but moved on to the third target where the second football found its way through. With the car on the line, Almada took her first shot at the target and came up short. Buchanan stopped the action on the field to give her some pointers before taking her final shot walking her backwards and closer to the target as he talked. When she turned around, the target was only five feet away and she easily through the target through, winning the 2015 Subaru WRX STI.
Thank you to everyone who made the 2014 Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl a success from the Royal Purple/Calumet marketing teams, MatchDrive who handled the contest administration, the experiential and RPLVB teams who made the halftime portion such a smooth experience, to the entire Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl ESPN team whose execution of all of the events surrounding the game and the game itself a exciting and memorable event for all.
